Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Association MAKALIOKA, linking Madagascar to France and, more specifically, Vatomandry (our base in Madagascar) to Marseille (our office in France).  Makalioka is a humanitarian aid organization, cooperation and international solidarity that leads to Madagascar actions and missions whose purpose is to foster a sustainable and autonomous development by providing support to local initiative projects. It therefore comes in many local development projects in the areas of health, education and training, agriculture, fishing, crafts, culture, music or sport.

The "makalioka" is a rice variety, which is the staple food of Madagascar. It is a symbol of togetherness, one to which we invite you around these actions. On this site we hope you discover and suggest to bring your assistance (grants, equipment, skills), while introducing you to the riches of an island and a people unique in many respects, including ecology, history or geography.    Madagascar is the 4th largest island in the world (an area equivalent to France + Benelux) and is located in the Indian Ocean, east of Africa where it is separated by the Mozambique Channel. Its capital is Antananarivo (Tananarive), the center of the country. There are about 150 million years, Gondwana, which united in one land of India, Australia, Antarctica, Madagascar, southern Africa and America, breaks up to form the continents current. Quaternary, Madagascar became an island, is positioned roughly at its present location. The isolation of Madagascar from the distant geological time explains the evolution of unique fauna and flora that is found today on this great island species that are found nowhere else in the world. Lemurs are the most famous example.

The first inhabitants of Madagascar come early in our era of South-Eastern Asia, and specifically the central part of Indonesia. Thus the first kingdoms are created around the twelfth century until the eighteenth century, several waves of immigration bringing Arabs, Africans, Indians and Austronesian to assimilate the early entrants to form the Malagasy people.  The first Europeans who were the Portuguese, arrived in Madagascar in 1500 while on the central highlands of the island, a kingdom took off, reaching its zenith in the late eighteenth Andrianampoinimerina with the king who died in 1810 . It undertook to unify the country's center and left by will to his son, Radama 1, the task of uniting the rest of the island ( "ny Riak No valamparihiko" the sea is the boundary of my rice) .  Merina kings reigned and on the island until the French invasion of Madagascar in 1896 and the abolition of the monarchy Malagasy Gallieni 1 March 1897. Placed first under protectorate, and declared a French colony, Madagascar, despite several resistance movements that were severely repressed (Menalamba insurgency, insurrection of March 29, 1947), not only regain its independence June 26, 1960 with the advent of 1st Malagasy Republic
